The Post Graduate and Research Department of Commerce is one of the oldest discipline started in the year 1971-72. The department started its UG programme B.Com followed by M.Com in 1975 with intake of 20 students. In 2000, B.Com. Tamil Medium and in 2007 Shift II B.Com was started granting more number to students to gain opportunity to study higher studies in this rural area. The department has been elevated to the position of a Research department in the year 2004 offering M.Phil. Degree in Commerce and Ph.D. Programme in the year 2012. Currently the department has 6 Research Guides and the department has produced 62 M.Phil. and 7 Ph.D. degree holders in the last five years.

The curriculum of Commerce education in one department is highly application oriented and various Programme such as lecturers, tutorials, seminars, assignments, projects. The department has highly qualified and experience teaching staff. During the year 2019 – 2020, the department Post Graduate students participated and presented paper in national level and international level of seminars or conferences and workshops of various colleges.
