The department of Physics was established in the year 1990 with B.Sc Physics with English as medium of instruction and M.Sc Physics in the year 2012. Subsequently the department was upgraded to P.G and research department offering Ph.D Degree in full time and part time mode. In the year 2013-2014 UG Degree course with Tamil as medium as instruction was introduced. In 2015 M. Phil degree course was introduced.

The Department has well equipped lab for both UG and PG degree course with a separate lab for research. For Personality development of the student we have chosen Yoga as a skill based elective for UG students. All the member of faculty are doctorates and well experienced. We have published more than 150 papers in reputed journals. In our department 67.5% are girls students and 32.5 % are boys.
